Volar
Midterm Exhibition

July 11, 2026 - August 30, 2026

Summer is a time to get out and move around. School is out, the fog is in. We go to the beach, hike and explore. The sun, when it breaks through, heats us up; we get buoyant and energized. Flowers open, birds fly, baby creatures stumble and tumble and play. The fish run. Tourists arrive, and join us in our love of this place where farmland meets ocean. It is a time of movement, of migration, where we take flight; away or toward other destinations.

At Madrone Arts, mid-session, it is our practice to produce a show-within-a-show where the member artists create pieces to respond to a specific theme.

“Volar”, (to fly), our current exhibition, calls for expressions of flight in each artist’s chosen media.

Gallery hours are:

Saturday & Sunday

11 - 5PM, and by appointment.

This season, a new exhibition at Madrone Arts in Pescadero invites you to experience the shifting light, layered textures, and atmospheric beauty of the California coastline. In collaboration with artists from the South Coast Artist Alliance, the exhibit entitled “Coastal Colors” draws its inspiration from one of the country’s most iconic natural landscapes.  From the dramatic cliffs and misty bluffs of Pescadero, Half Moon Bay, and Santa Cruz, artists will explore how color defines this special stretch of beaches - capturing the emotional spectrum of the coastline.

Through the generous support of the San Mateo County Arts Commission, “Coastal Colors” will open to the public on May 2nd and will run through August 30th, 2026.  The show will showcase a wide variety of artworks - mixed media, painting, photography, and sculpture.
